Michelle Obama is No Ones Baby's Mama, She is Malia and Sasha Mother
Yesterday, FOX News made a bad call when they referred and labeled Michelle Obama's as "Obama's baby mama." FOX News apologized for the label, however; what is sad is the ongoing stereotypes of African American women in mainstream media.
It is especially disturbing how media organizations attack on Black women continues as if we do not exist.
The ongoing debate on the news this week is whether presidential candidates wives, especially Michelle Obama is fair game on attacks. I wonder if this would have been the case if a white Democratic candidate held the nomination. I do not remember this in 2000 or 2004. No one said anything like this about Laura Bush. How dare someone say that? It would be consider blasphemy. What about Cynthia McCain? They have already stated that she is no ones baby mama.
So why is it okay to do that to Black women? Why do the media feel as if it is okay to say that about Black women?
Whatever your political position, the attack on Black women must cease. It seems that the media can "carry" us without thinking. It is not okay to do that. It is downright outrageous and insulting.
It is also an attack on Black love and the Black family.
This country has not seen a real life Black couple who actually loves and cares for each other. Their relationship is not the stereotypical one that is blasted on primetime tv, cable and movies. It is not a political marriage. It is a real marriage, a real partnership. And this society can not handle it. It can not handle it at all.

Simone,
This site is a great idea. It's an opportunity for us to discuss the changes that are on the horizon, as well the continual issue of race in America.
I was reviewing some of the information from your site, with my Aunts last night. They were surprisingly unaware that a black woman is currently running for president, even though their familiar with Cynthia McKinney politics.
In reference to the ridiculous comments that have been made by the media, at the expense of Michelle Obama. I agree with you, the media has continued to create and maintain negative images of blacks.
I believe that Michelle Obama has as much grace and poise as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and she deserves as much respect.
I was browsing through an email that has been circulated with pictures of the future first family. It is wonderful to see black love. Michelle and Barak Obama's love threatens to dispel myths and negative images that have been perpetuated far to long. It's about time.
Question for you: Who do you think Obama will select as his VP?
I think that Ohama is going to pick a white male. Maybe Edwards.
Wonderful blog!!
I don't know why we are so surprised by the media's treatment of Michelle Obama...have we watched how our own networks portray us and how our own men treat us? The media is just jumping on the bandwagon and it is only going to get worse!!! Michelle Obama should be revered as a positive, intelligent, articulate future representative of this country! She represents real women!
We, as women, as African American women, have to take a formal, visible stand against this type of treatment in all forms of the media. I have started The Respect Movement to address and take action against such things. I will keep you posted on the details!
Hello Nenny,
Thanks for your comments. I look forward to seeing more information on the Movement.
